Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was the 2 millionth product to roll off the production line

In a historic milestone for the Indian automotive industry, Maruti Suzuki has become the first car manufacturer in India to produce over 2 million vehicles in a single calendar year. The landmark 2 millionth vehicle, an Ertiga, rolled off the production line at the company’s Manesar facility, marking a significant achievement for the automaker.

Maruti Suzuki’s accomplishment is also a first within Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global network of automobile manufacturing facilities, underlining India’s pivotal role in the company’s worldwide operations.

According to the company, of the 2 million vehicles produced in 2024, 60% were manufactured in its plants in Haryana, while the remaining 40% came from its Gujarat facility. Popular models such as the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR and Brezza were among the top five vehicles produced during the year, reflecting strong consumer demand across segments.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki operates three manufacturing units in India, with a combined annual production capacity of 2.35 million units. To meet rising demand and prepare for future growth, the company is undertaking significant expansion. A new facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana, is expected to become operational in 2025. Once fully functional, the plant will add a production capacity of 1 million units annually. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki has plans to establish another factory with a similar capacity, further increasing its overall annual output to 4 million units in the coming years.

This milestone comes at a time when India’s automotive sector is witnessing sustained growth, driven by increased demand for passenger vehicles and ongoing investments in infrastructure and manufacturing. Maruti Suzuki’s achievement highlights not only its strong market presence but also the increasing capacity and efficiency of India’s automotive manufacturing ecosystem.

The company’s expansion plans are aimed at addressing growing domestic demand while strengthening its position as a leading player in the global automotive market. With the addition of new facilities and increased capacity, Maruti Suzuki is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory in the years ahead.
