Maruti Suzuki begins exporting India made Fronx to the Japanese market

Maruti Suzuki has commenced the export of its made-in-India Fronx model to Japan, marking a significant step for the company. Below are the key highlights of this development:

  • First Shipment: Over 1600 units of the Fronx were dispatched from Gujarat’s Pipavav port, marking the beginning of exports to Japan.
  • Second Model Exported to Japan: The Fronx is the second Maruti Suzuki model to be exported to Japan, following the Baleno, which began exports in 2016.
  • First Crossover Exported: This is the first time Maruti Suzuki is exporting an crossover to Japan, with the Fronx expected to go on sale there in autumn 2024.
  • Vehicle Specifications: The Fronx is based on the Heartect platform and offers two engine options in India – a 1.2-litre petrol engine (89 BHP, 113 Nm) and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (99 BHP, 148 Nm). Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT and 6-speed automatic.
  • Export Success: Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest passenger vehicle exporter. In FY2023-24, the company exported over 2.8 lakh units to more than 100 countries, holding a 42% share in India’s passenger vehicle exports.
  • Record Exports: In the first quarter of FY2024-25, the carmaker exported a record 70,560 units, further establishing its dominance in the global market.

This move signifies Maruti’s growing international presence and the increasing global demand for Indian-made vehicles.
