Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Features, Variants Explained

2018 Maruti Suzuki Future S Concept 1

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso variants have been leaked ahead of the launch scheduled for 30th September.

The S-Presso will come in 4 variants and directly rival the Renault Kwid

Maruti’s answer to the Renault Kwid, the S-Presso will be launched on the 30th of this month. However, the information regarding the variants and features has been leaked. There will be 4 variants on offer namely Std, LXi, VXi and the range-topping VXi+.

Features like ABS, driver-side airbag, rear parking sensors, speed alert system and seat belt reminder will be standard across the range. But some basic necessities like air conditioning won’t included in the standard kit. This is understandable as the company is trying to get the base price as low as possible to wow the customers.

The Maruti S-Presso Std variant will be bare bones. It won’t get a power steering and body-coloured bumpers, ORVMs and door handles. One up from the Std trim is the LXi. This trim gets the basics like air conditioning and a power steering.

Things get fairly reasonable from the VXi trim as it will get body-coloured bumpers, power windows at the front, central locking, keyless entry, a basic SmartPlay dock audio system with Bluetooth and AUX connectivity and wheel covers.

The range-topping VXi+ trim will get all four powered windows, body-coloured ORVMs and door handles, front passenger airbag, a rear parcel tray and a 12V socket. The entertainment package comprises a 7-inch touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice recognition and steering mounted audio controls.

The Indian automaker has equipped the S-Presso with a BS6 compliant 1.0-litre, K10B, 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque. This engine will be the sole offering with the S-Presso and is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. An AMT option will be offered on the VXi and VXi+ trims. We expect a small drop in fuel efficiency while transitioning from BS4 to BS6.

Since Maruti Suzuki is building this car on a budget, features like a push-button start, automatic climate control, fog lamps, reverse parking camera and alloy wheels are given a miss. In comparison, the Kwid gets alloy wheels on the Climber variant and also comes with fog lamps, reverse parking camera and a rear armrest. Prices of the S-Presso are expected to be between Rs. 3.3 – 4.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
