The Maruti S-Cross will be launched in India in July and the company has already started production of the mini SUV to cope up with the initial demand.
The compact SUV segment is seeing a surge in demand and players like the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano are fighting it out in this segment. The fight is going to become tougher with Hyundai and Maruti launching the Creta and S-Cross respectively. The Korean auto giant preponed the launch of its product by a couple of months to prevent Maruti from getting a head start while the latter too has begun production of its much-awaited compact SUV and if reports are to be believed, the S-Cross will be launched in India next month itself.
Maruti is producing around 50 cars a day and lining up stock to meet the initial demand for the vehicle. The S-Cross will be available in a number of variants and colours. While base variants will get only basic features, the top variants are expected to be loaded to the brim. The base variants will also get black roof rails while top variants will have silver roof rails. The compact SUV is also going to have Electronic Stability Program (ESP) but it won’t be offered on all variants. There was a lot of confusion regarding the vehicle’s name, whether it’ll be Across or S-Cross, but now it has been confirmed that Maruti will keep the name as S-Cross only.
The Maruti S-Cross will be offered with AWD but only on the top variants. The SUV will get two diesel engines – 1.3-litre DDiS engine producing 90 BHP of power and a 1.6-litre MultiJet unit from Fiat which will give out 120 BHP of power and 320 Nm of torque. The S-Cross will not get Maruti badging and it’ll come with Suzuki logos only. The vehicle will be priced in the range of Rs. 8-13 lakhs and dealer dispatches will start very shortly.
