Maruti S-Cross Petrol Showcased At 2020 Auto Expo

The Maruti S-Cross is now offered with a K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine.

The Maruti S-Cross was launched in 2015 with two engine options – 1.6-litre MJD and 1.3-litre MJD. When Maruti gave this crossover a facelift in 2018, the company ditched the bigger engine and the S-Cross was until now offered with only the 1.3 MJD in the 90 PS/200 Nm tune.

With the production of the 1.3 MJD stopped, Maruti has now plonked in their K15B 1.5-litre, 4-cyl petrol engine in the S-Cross. This engine also powers the Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6 and now the Vitara Brezza too. It makes 103 HP and 138 Nm and is available with a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque convertor. This engine also comes with Maruti’s SHVS hybrid tech.

Maruti developed a new 1.5-litre diesel engine in-house but it isn’t BS6 compliant because the costs are high. For now, the S-Cross will be offered with the petrol engine only, but who knows, Maruti might re-launch the 1.5 diesel in BS6 guise in the future.
