According to previous reports, the S-Cross was expected to be powered by an option of 1.3 and 1.6-litre Multijet engines, but the crossover will most likely only get the 1.6-litre diesel motor. With the launch nearing, the S-Cross’ website has gone live now.

After the launch of the much talked about Celerio diesel hatchback, the next most talked about vehicle from the Maruti Suzuki stable is the upcoming S-Cross crossover. Contrary to earlier reports, the S-Cross will actually get the Maruti Suzuki badge as per latest spy shots of the production model. The car has caught the whole media in a frenzy with the truck loads of speculation that is surrounding it. This has also helped the S-Cross in a good way because everyone is looking forward to see the production version. Bookings for the vehicle has commenced for an amount of Rs. 25,000/- with the launch ready to take place next month.

Much of the chit-chat regarding the upcoming crossover is its engine options, the diesel mills to be exact because a petrol version will not be available at the time of launch. If at all a petrol engine is offered, the 1.4-litre K-Series engine powering the Ciaz sedan will find its way on to the S-Cross. Earlier it was speculated that the S-Cross will come with an option of two diesel engines – the 1.3-litre Multijet and the 1.6-litre Multijet. But, the forthcoming vehicle is likely to only get the more powerful 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine which is sourced from Fiat (the website calls it an unbeatable engine). This engine is expected to produce around 120 BHP of power and a huge 320 Nm of torque.

The Suzuki S-Cross will give stiff competition to the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and also the Hyundai Creta. With Maruti Suzuki’s wide service network all over the country, the crossover is expected to be well received in the market much like the Ciaz. It will most likely be priced in the range of Rs. 8-13 lakhs (ex-showroom). The S-Cross website has also gone live and you can access it HERE. Carrying the tagline of ‘The Premium Crossover’, the S-Cross promises to be a powerful, spacious and luxurious model from India’s dominating car maker.
