Maruti S-Cross To Get 1.5 Petrol Engine Soon

2017 Maruti S-Cross Facelift Front And Side

The Maruti S-Cross currently gets the option of a 1.3-litre diesel engine only.

The current diesel unit on the S-Cross makes 90 PS and 200 Nm

Maruti Suzuki had facelifted the S-Cross in 2017. However, the S-Cross is only offered with a diesel powertrain and there is no option for a petrol engine. On the sidelines of Maruti’s announcement of them discontinuing diesel engines, it has now been learnt that the S-Cross is likely to get the 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Ciaz.

Maruti Suzuki will use the new K15B petrol engine which is already seen on the updated Ciaz and the second generation of the Ertiga. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine makes 105 HP of power and 138 Nm of torque. Not only this, but the engine will also get Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid System (SHVS) with a dual-battery setup. The engine could be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox but the chances of the company offering an AMT or a torque converter cannot be ruled out either.

In the international markets, the S-Cross is offered with choices of a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, 1.4-litre turbo petrol and 1.6-litre diesel. However, the facelifted S-Cross in India only for a 1.3-litre diesel engine on offer which makes 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of peak torque. The petrol powered S-Cross will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Ford EcoSport and the Renault Captur in India. Needless to say, the S-Cross will be BS6 compliant with the new engine.
