The Maruti S-Cross has been spied testing with a new engine, probably a 1.5 diesel.
Maruti has been developing a new 1.5-litre diesel engine that is expected to be plonked in the Ciaz. This 1.5-litre diesel engine is being developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki and will also comply with BS6 emission norms.
Recently, the Maruti S-Cross had been spotted testing in Mumbai and the test mule wasn’t the facelifted version. Hence, it is likely that the crossover was powered by the new 1.5-litre diesel engine. The facelifted S-Cross is expected to be launched during the festive season this year.
Recently, the company completed testing this 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Ciaz and a launch of the same is expected sometime in 2018. The specifications of the new oil-burner aren’t revealed yet. The S-Cross being spotted here could mean that after the Ciaz it is the crossover that could be powered by the new diesel engine.
Every diesel car in Maruti’s portfolio is powered by the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine except for the S-Cross that in addition to the 1.3-litre diesel is also powered by a bigger 1.6-litre diesel engine, again sourced from Fiat. The automaker will be ditching the 1.3-litre diesel as it does not comply with the BS6 emission norms and will also save Maruti from paying hefty royalties to Fiat.
