Maruti Suzuki has the biggest sales and service network in the country and now the company has opened the highest altitude car workshop in India. The new Maruti workshop has been opened at Kaza in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh and is located at an altitude of 3740 meters above sea level. The workshop is located right next to Indian Oil’s pump, which happens to be the highest gas station in the world. Previously the highest workshop for the company was at Leh situated at a height of 3505 meters.
“It is a challenge operating a service station in such conditions but it will help cater to our growing number of customers in the region and also to the high tourist traffic,” Pankaj Narula, executive officer (service), Maruti Suzuki, said.
The area where Maruti’s new workshop is located is closed for 4 months a year. Due to the distance, the cost of logistics to procure spares is higher too but the prices charged by the service center are the same as everywhere else. Rangnik, Kibber, Hanse and Losar will be covered by this workshop. Maruti Suzuki’s network comprises of 2992 workshops across 1406 cities in India, making it the biggest network in the car industry in the country by a sizable margin.
