Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Spotted Testing In India

Maruti Jimny 5-Door finally spotted testing on Indian roads

Maruti Jimny 5-door prototype has hit the Indian public roads for testing, FINALLY! It is a heavily camouflaged right-hand drive test mule with 5-door layout, which means it is definitely headed for domestic market launch. The news broke in 2020 that the Jimny will be launched in India only in the 5-door avatar and this is it!

The SUV is expected to make its debut at the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo. We believe this will be a facelifted version of the Jimny. It is likely to get some cosmetic tweaks and new features to differentiate it with the 3-door version sold internationally.

We have spotted the 3-door Jimny multiple times in India. It is being manufactured here for the export markets. Maruti Suzuki took their own sweet time to develop the 5-door model and cater the demand of the international market at the same time. The long wheelbase version is apparently the more feasible choice for our country and hence the delay.

The Jimny is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine with both manual and automatic transmission options. It will also come with AllGrip Pro 4WD tech for off-road enthusiasts.

The Jimny will compete with the likes of Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. It is expected to be retailed via Maruti’s premium Nexa dealership network.
