Maruti Ignis diesel variants discontinued in India owing to poor demand.
Maruti Ignis diesel variants have been discontinued in India. The homegrown automaker has decided to pull the plug on the diesel variants of the Ignis due to the lack of demand with 90% customers opting for the petrol trims. The news is yet to be confirmed by Maruti as the official website still lists the diesel variants of the Ignis.
The Maruti Ignis is powered by the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine as seen in the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. The oil-burner makes 75 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque. Transmission options on the Ignis include a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as a 5-speed AMT. Reports suggest that the diesel variants comprised of just 10% sales of the hatchback while the 90% sales came from the petrol powered variants.
The Maruti Ignis was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and went on sale in January 2017. The fact that the vehicle has an unusual styling (crossover-like styling) and is crammed with a host of features, makes it one among the top 25 selling cars in India.
