Maruti Fronx ADAS Spied

Maruti Fronx spotted with ADAS equipment on the front profile

Recent sightings suggest that Maruti Suzuki may soon introduce an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) variant of the Fronx in India. The Fronx, a sub-4-meter crossover based on the Baleno, has already made a significant impact in the Indian market with strong sales figures. The latest development shows a Fronx equipped with ADAS technology being tested in India, raising questions about a potential launch in the domestic market.

ADAS in the Sub-4-Meter Segment

Currently, the Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue are the only sub-4-meter vehicles in India to offer ADAS. If Maruti Suzuki decides to launch this variant domestically, the Fronx could become the third model in this segment to offer advanced safety features. The test vehicle, seen with red temporary registration plates from Haryana and some camouflage, suggests that Maruti Suzuki is actively testing the ADAS-equipped Fronx in India.

Key Features Spotted

The spy shots reveal a front-mounted radar-based ADAS sensor system, a significant addition that would enhance the vehicle’s safety profile. This V-shaped quadrilateral module is designed to monitor the road ahead, detecting obstacles such as vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and other potential hazards. The system is expected to work in tandem with a camera to provide comprehensive safety coverage.

Additionally, the test mule was equipped with front parking sensors, a feature not currently available on the Fronx in India. This further indicates that Maruti Suzuki may be planning to upgrade the vehicle’s safety features significantly.

Potential Launch or Export-Spec Model?

While the sighting of the ADAS-equipped Fronx has sparked speculation about a potential Indian launch, there is also the possibility that this variant is intended solely for export. Maruti Suzuki has already started exporting the Fronx to Japan, where stringent safety regulations, including mandatory Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), make ADAS a necessity. The resemblance between the Japan-spec Fronx and the test vehicle seen in India strengthens the case for this being an export-specific model.

Implications for Maruti Suzuki’s Safety Image

If Maruti Suzuki decides to launch the ADAS-equipped Fronx in India, it could be a significant step forward for the brand, which has faced criticism in the past for offering vehicles with lower safety ratings. The introduction of ADAS in a smaller and more affordable model like the Fronx would enhance the brand’s reputation for safety and align with global trends towards more advanced driver assistance features.

As of now, there is no official confirmation from Maruti Suzuki regarding the launch of the Fronx ADAS variant in India. Whether the ADAS-equipped Fronx will be available to Indian consumers remains to be seen. However, the ongoing testing suggests that Maruti Suzuki is at least exploring the possibility, which could lead to significant advancements in the safety features offered in its vehicles.
