Maruti has finally launched the 1.5-litre diesel Ertiga at a starting price of Rs. 9.86 lakhs.
Maruti Suzuki launched the Ciaz 1.5-litre diesel recently and now the automaker has launched the Ertiga with the new diesel engine. The Maruti Ertiga 1.5 diesel is available in the VDi, ZDi and ZDi+ variants while the LDi variant has been given a miss. Both the diesel engines will be available on sale side-by-side for now and the new engine carries a premium of about Rs. 30,000/- over the older engine.
While the older 1.3-litre diesel engine has a claimed fuel efficiency of 25.47 km/l, the new engine has a figure of 24.2 km/l. The older engine was available with SHVS but the new engine doesn’t get the tech. The 1.3-litre diesel engine won’t comply with the BS6 norms and hence Maruti is replacing the mill with the new 1.5-litre unit that they have developed in-house.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 94 HP at 4000 RPM and 225 Nm of torque from 1500 RPM in comparison to the 1.3-litre unit’s 89 HP at 4000 RPM and 200 Nm at 1750 RPM. The new engine also comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine isn’t available with an automatic as of now.
Apart from the addition of the new engine and gearbox, no other changes have been made to the Ertiga. It continues to remain a strong contender in its segment and with the new engine, its fight against its rivals will get interesting.
