Maruti launched the Dzire based on its popular hatchback the Swift. The Dzire’s first generation was launched back in 2008. Later, because of the tax benefits, it was converted to a sub-4-meter compact sedan. Maruti announced its third-generation in 2017, and in 2020 it got a minor facelift, with a new petrol engine option. Let us do a thorough analysis to find out more about the Maruti Dzire.
Pros:- Peppy Petrol Engine, Class Leading Space, Good Ride Quality
Cons:- No Diesel Engine, Average Cabin Quality, Pricey Top Variants
Maruti Dzire Exteriors
The facelift model of the Dzire gets a taller Audi-like grille with chrome surrounds around it. The grille gets two horizontal slats with the Suzuki logo placed in the centre. The fog lamp housing also gets L-shaped chrome inserts around it. From the side, the car looks simple, and it also gets diamond-cut alloy wheels in the top-trim. From the rear, the car looks neat and there is a chrome strip which connects the taillights. The taillights are a combination of LED and halogens.
Maruti Dzire Interiors
Maruti has used fake wood inserts in the dashboard, but it doesn’t give you much of a premium feel. Overall cabin quality feels good but there are a lot of hard plastics used in the dashboard which has some glossy effect to them. The steering wheel comes from the Maruti Swift with a flat bottom and comes leather-wrapped with wood treatment too. The dials are crisp and clear with the needle pointing 90° downwards. A coloured MID sits in between speedometer and tachometer. The Dzire comes equipped with Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system. It supports Navigation, Voice Commands, Bluetooth, USB & AUX connectivity, steering mounted controls, audio remote control function through the SmartPlay Studio app. Other features include automatic climate control, auto headlamps, push-button start-stop, pollen filter, electrically adjustable, and foldable ORVMs, reverse parking camera, reverse parking sensors, cruise control, and much more.
Maruti Dzire Space
The Dzire is a comfortable car to be in. The levels of comfort in the Dzire are high when compared with the rivals. The legroom at the rear is good enough for two tall passengers to sit behind each other. The front seats are nicely contoured, giving a comfortable ride. The rear seat has a nice recline angle with AC vents for the rear passengers.
Maruti Dzire Engine Performance
The Maruti Swift comes with a 1.2 litre, K-series, Dual VVT petrol engine. The engine churns out a power output of 89 HP @ 6000 RPM and a torque output of 113 Nm @ 4400 RPM. The engine comes mated with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT (which Maruti likes to call AGS). This new engine feels peppy at city speeds and can rev up to 6400 RPM easily. Tap the throttle, and the Dzire surges ahead with ease. Even in the higher gears, once you tap the throttle, the car picks up the pace with ease. In addition, this engine spins quite fast, giving it some extra boost of performance.
Maruti Dzire Mileage
The BS6 Maruti Dzire has an ARAI fuel efficiency of 23.26 km/l for the manual transmission, and 24.12 km/l for the automatic transmission. In the real-world conditions, it will return around 15-18 km/l in city traffic conditions and 18-21 out on the highways for the manual transmission. The automatic will return around 15-17 km/l in city traffic conditions and 17-22 km/l out on the highways. However, fuel efficiency also depends upon the style of driving and traffic conditions.
Maruti Dzire Handling
The steering is nice and light at low speeds. However, at high speeds, the steering weighs up decently but doesn’t offer a significant amount of feedback. The Dzire feels stable and well planted at high speeds.
Maruti Dzire Comfort
The suspension of the Dzire is on the softer side and it can absorb bad patches of road easily. The overall ride quality of the Dzire is good, and it gives a comfortable experience to its passengers.
Maruti Dzire Safety
The Dzire is based on Suzuki’s Heartect platform. The body structure is more rigid by the use of ultra-high tensile strength steel. In terms of the safety equipment, the Dzire gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, anti-theft security system, ISOFIX child seat mounts, speed alerts, engine immobilizer.
