Maruti Ciaz 1.5 Diesel Specs Leaked, Produces 94 BHP, 225 Nm!

2018 Maruti Ciaz Review

Maruti Ciaz 1.5 Diesel will be launched this year and produces good amount of torque.

The Maruti Ciaz diesel has low-end lag which the new engine will address

Maruti Suzuki has only one diesel engine powering all its diesel cars, the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre unit. With BS6 norms all set to kick in from April 2020, the Fiat diesel engine, or DDiS in Maruti speak, won’t be continued as it won’t meet the new emission regulations. Thus, Maruti has been, for quite sometime now, been working on its own diesel engine, its second ever (the first one is the 800cc unit that powered the Celerio but was discontinued but does duty in the Super Carry LCV currently).

The 1.5-litre diesel engine being developed by Maruti Suzuki will make its debut in the Ciaz this year. It is codenamed as E15A and will displace 1498cc. The 4-cylinder oil burner is set to generate 94 BHP of power at 4000 RPM and 225 Nm of torque between 1500 to 2500 RPM. To be called as DDiS 225, this motor will comply with next year’s stringent emission norms.

Although this engine is lightweight and features a dual mass flywheel, it won’t get hybrid tech but will still be quite frugal with a claimed fuel economy of 26.82 km/hr in the Ciaz 1.5 diesel. This is of course less than the current 1.3-litre diesel engine in the Ciaz that outputs 90 BHP and 200 Nm, having a claimed mileage of 28.09 km/l.

While Maruti will launch the Ciaz 1.5 diesel this year, it won’t discontinue the 1.3-litre diesel engine in the Ciaz until next year. Thus, the Ciaz will be available with one petrol and two diesel engine options. The new 1.5-litre diesel engine will make it to other Maruti cars too including the Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, S-Cross and also the Vitara Brezza, however the state of tune might differ in the smaller cars.
