The diesel variants of the Maruti Ciaz have been discontinued ahead of the BS6 norms deadline.
The Maruti Ciaz got a mid-life facelift in 2018 and last year the automaker had introduced its new in-house 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Ciaz and Ertiga. The Ciaz diesel has now been discontinued because the engine is BS4 compliant and it won’t be upgraded to meet the new BS6 norms, at least in the near future.
The Maruti Ciaz diesel has been removed from the company’s official website. The website now lists only one engine which is the 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine which is offered with SHVS. The engine comes matched to either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT, and it is BS6 compliant. Even the specifications page on the Ciaz’s website lists out only the petrol engine. However, the Ertiga is still offered with the diesel engine but it will be discontinued before April.
The Maruti Ciaz diesel was offered with the tried and tested 1.3-litre MJD engine right from launch and the new engine gave company to the MJD for a while. The 1.5-litre engine produced 95 HP and it is expected that Maruti might re-launch it in BS6 guise in the future, but that’ll take more than a year from now.
