The new DualJet engine will be more improved and fuel efficient compared to its predecessor.
Maruti Suzuki could introduce the Baleno hatchback with Smart Hybrid and a new DualJet petrol engine. The new 1.2-litre DualJet petrol motor will make its way into the Baleno first among the other vehicles in the company’s lineup.
Currently, multiple Maruti cars are powered by the K12B 1.2-litre petrol engine. The new DualJet engine which also goes by the code K12C is an updated version of the K12B unit. It is also expected to deliver more efficient performance and adhere to the emission regulations as per the upcoming BS6 norms.
Mechanically, the new DualJet engine receives a lot of upgrades to make it more fuel efficient. The engine gets a complete rework from its intake to the engine internals. The fuel injectors also have been increased to two per cylinder which allows better combustion process and thus improving power and efficiency. The current engine aboard the Baleno makes 83 BHP and 115 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and the car returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.4 km/l.
The new engine gets redesigned intake ports, combustion chambers and piston crowns with oil cooling jets for the underside of the pistons, new exhaust gas recirculation system and SHVS. Unlike the Ciaz petrol which gets a dual battery SHVS system, the Baleno will get a single-battery system. The Maruti Baleno Smart Hybrid DualJet engine is expected to come in the Zeta and Delta variants of the vehicle. Other vehicles in Maruti’s portfolio will also get this engine in the future.
