The highly successful premium hatchback from Maruti Suzuki, Baleno’s sales has just crossed 75,000 units. The vehicle has had more than 1,00,000 bookings which has resulted in a tremendous increase in its waiting period.
Maruti Suzuki’s premium Baleno hatchback has got what the common Indian buyer wants. High mileage, lots of features, various powertrain options and trendy styling makes the car emphasise itself to the customer and gives it a clear nod ahead of its competitors. It comes at a starting price close to Rs. 5 lakhs which created a frenzy in its sales. It was released back in October last year and has been placed in India’s top 10 best selling cars’ list many times.
23,875 units were sold till the end of last year and it went down by a meagre amount at the start of the new year and thus, fell short behind market leader, the Hyundai Elite i20, by a few hundred units. Now the Maruti Baleno is all set to cross 75,000 sold units in June, 8 months after its release. Sales have consistently gone upwards of 10,000 units per month. It has received more than 1,00,000 bookings, thereby stretching its waiting period up to 8 months.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has become the most exported car for the company with more than 3400 units send abroad. To ramp up production, the all-new Gujarat plant which will start manufacturing from January 2017, is scheduled to churn along with extra production capacity at its current Manesar plant. The diesel variant of the Baleno is less favoured owing to the diesel engine insecurity across the country.
Meanwhile, the Maruti Ciaz has glided in the market since 2014, and has now reached a new milestone with 1 lakh units sold. It has been paired up against the likes of the Honda City in the above 4-metre sedan segment. The Ciaz diesel hybrid is currently the most fuel-efficient diesel vehicle in the country, as claimed by ARAI. The company has formulated an insistent strategy to increase its NEXA dealerships to more than 250 showrooms across India by next year.
