The fresh spy images of the Maruti Baleno Dualjet SHVS have surfaced marking the existence of a mild-hybrid equipped petrol powered car for export markets.
The Maruti Baleno has proved to be a super hit car for the Indo-Japanese company in the supermini segment in India, as well as overseas. Therefore, to meet the industry and market standards in markets like Japan and the U.K., Maruti also makes variants of the Baleno which are equipped with upgraded mechanicals. One of those offerings is the upcoming SHVS equipped petrol mild-hybrid variant, which has now been spotted testing in the wild.
The Maruti Baleno Dualjet SHVS petrol mild-hybrid has been spied testing in Mumbai. The vehicle was painted in midnight-black colour and had subtle changes which differentiated it from the regular petrol Baleno available in India. The car spied was fitted with R16 wheels with a sporty alloy design. It was also sporting rear disc brakes and a rear spoiler. The car is also expected to be equipped with features like cruise control and leather seats.
The SHVS badge on the car was cleverly hidden but the disc brakes and Haryana test plates gave it away. The condition of tyres and the dings and scratches on the paintwork suggest that the particular vehicle has been silently testing in the country for some time. This is the third petrol engine being offered with the car, the other two being the 1.2-litre K12B and 1.0-litre BoosterJet direct-injection engines.
The Maruti Baleno Dualjet SHVS makes 90 PS of power and is interestingly named as K12C. The engine is currently speculated to be available only for the export variant of the Baleno, as the SHVS equipped vehicle will see huge increase in demand because of the increased fuel efficiency and the monetary incentives the mild-hybrid equipped car will get from the government – the kind of demand which Maruti delightfully says that it will be unable to meet at all.
