The Maruti Baleno Alpha CVT has been launched in India. The Baleno is also available with a CVT gearbox in Delta and Zeta variants. The infotainment system also gets Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink connectivity. Another feature on the Alpha variant is projector headlamps with LED DRLs. Safety features like dual airbags and ABS with EBD are standard across the range. The Baleno has been one of the best-sellers for Maruti Suzuki and has sold over 2,00,000 units since its launch in October 2015.
The Maruti Baleno CVT is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 84 HP of power and 115 Nm of torque.
6 percent of Maruti cars sold in FY 2014-15 were automatics and the number has almost doubled in just 2 years. Last year, i.e. FY 2016-17, 11 percent of Maruti cars sold were automatics. Maruti calls its automatic cars as cars with ‘two pedal technology’. Maruti’s mission is to double two pedal technology contribution from current levels of approximately 1,50,000 units to the 3,00,000 mark by 2020.
The two pedal technology includes CVT in the Baleno, an automatic transmission in the Ciaz and Ertiga and Auto Gear Shift in the Celerio, Alto K10, Wagon R, Ignis and Dzire.
Earlier this year, Maruti had also launched the Baleno RS, a performance variant of the Baleno with a turbocharged petrol engine. Maruti has priced the Baleno Alpha CVT at Rs. 8.34 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
