Maruti Suzuki has joined hands with the Transport Department to set up 12 automated driving test centres in Delhi.
Maruti Suzuki has never stepped back when it comes to road safety in India. With more than 430 driving schools training over 1.5 lakh drivers year after year, the leading car manufacturer has certainly put its vast dealership network to good use. In an attempt to bolster safety on our roads, Maruti Suzuki has signed a MoA with the Transport Department of Delhi to set up automated driving test centres in the capital.
As per the agreement, Maruti Suzuki will set up one test centre each in Hauz Khas, Shakur Basti, Raja Garden, Hari Nagar, Burari, Loni Road, Sarai Kale Khan, Rohini, Jharoda Kalan, Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Surajmal Vihar and Dwarka. The company estimates an investment of Rs. 15 crores for this purpose.
The maintenance of automated driving test centres will be monitored by Maruti Suzuki for the initial 3 years while their commissioning and operation will be handled by the Transport Department.
Equipped with advanced HD cameras, integrated IT systems and video analytics technology, the specifically laid test tracks will be utilised by the Government to issue driving licenses to eligible applicants.
To ensure complete transparency, cameras will also be set up inside the cars. Currently, the process is done manually which allows human discretion and even unfair means. The test track has been thoughtfully laid out to include normal driving, ‘8’ shape test, reverse ‘S’ test and parallel parking for four-wheelers.
There is a dedicated track for two-wheelers which includes a modified version of ‘8’ shape test to judge maneuverability and control. These state-of-the-art automated driving test centres will help the Government in its efforts to make roads safer in the country.
