The wait for the best-selling entry-level hatchback update is over, the new BS6 compliant Alto 800 is out now.
The new Alto 800 is here with its refreshed looks. The car gets a mild facelift with a lot of new updates to comply with the upcoming government norms. The Alto 800 is the second car in the Indian automaker’s line up to comply with the BS6 norms. The first car was the Baleno that was launched recently.
The best-selling car for 15 consecutive years now has come to us in a refreshed new avatar and is safer and cleaner to run. The Alto is a preference for many first time buyers in the Indian market due to its affordability and nimble engine. The updated engine has a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.05 km/l, which is a big pro for many car buyers.
The car now features a new redesigned bumper which features a nice wide grille, with a beehive structure. The headlamps are sharper than before and look great with the accentuated bumpers that give the front fascia a bit of an oomph. The bumper design is somewhat similar to that of the Baleno but nevertheless looks great on the Alto.
The interiors look pretty much the same, except for the infotainment system, which is now called the Smart Play Dock. The Smart Play Dock is Bluetooth compatible and works by holding the phone which can be used as a touch interface to access calls, music, navigation, etc.
The car is now much safer than its pre-facelift model and now features a host of safety features. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution System (EBD) is now fitted on it. Adding to that are features like reverse parking sensor, driver airbag, speed alert system and seat belt reminder for both the passengers up front. All these safety features come standard across all variants.
The car is powered by a 796cc petrol engine, that produces a maximum power of 47 BHP at 6000 RPM and maximum torque of 69 Nm at 3500 RPM. The engine is BS6 compliant which means that it now produces nearly 25 percent fewer Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) in vehicular emission.
