Maruti to replace 4-speed auto with 6-speed torque converter in some cars
Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce 6-speed auto transmission in the Ertiga, XL6 and Brezza. The Ertiga and XL6 facelifts recently spotted testing will get the new transmission and even the new generation Brezza that was leaked recently.
These cars are currently being offered with a 4-speed auto transmission which is quite old now. The new 6-speed torque converter unit will meet the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE 2) norms that will be implemented in April.
The new transmission will offer better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. The added ratios will also help in improving the performance of the car. It will get a sport mode as well as a manual mode, which is not available with the current 4-speed auto.
The Maruti Ciaz and S-Cross will get updated with the new gearbox later when their new iteration arrive in the market.
The lower capacity 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre engines will continue to get the 5-speed AMT and CVT transmissions, no 6-speed auto for small engines.
