In March 2022, sedan sales went upward!

Compact sedan sales rose by 33 percent in March 2022 thanks to a strong showing by the Maruti Dzire and Tata Tigor. The Maruti car found 18,623 new homes, while the Tata model registered sales of 4007 units.
The Hyundai Aura was third with 3775 unit sales and the Honda Amaze was last with sales of 2988 units last month. The 4 compact sedans collectively registered sales of 29,393 units in March 2022 as opposed to 22,150 units during the same period last year.

The Honda City remains the king of the C-segment and in March 2022, it raked up 3225 more buyers. Skoda’s Slavia was not far off having registered sales of 2665 units in the same period.
Maruti’s Ciaz was third in the segment as 1834 units of the sedan got retailed last month, while the Hyundai Verna (1586 units) did reasonably well. But, the Volkswagen Vento which is on its last legs fared poorly.
Overall, the cars in the segment registered sales of 9485 units in March 2022 as opposed to 5358 units in the same period last year, which is a 77 percent year-on-year (YoY) sales growth.

The Skoda Octavia remains the only car in the D-segment of the sedan market and in March 2022, it registered sales of 180 units. One really has to wonder for how long it will be alone in its segment.

Finally, in March 2022, premium sedan sales remained strong. Unlike in February 2022, the Skoda Superb (180 units) was on top of the Toyota Camry (120 units), with the latter posting tremendous sales growth.
