Sketches of the next generation SsangYong Rexton, based on the LIV-2 concept have been revealed.
SsangYong had showcased the LIV-2 concept some time back on which the next generation India-bound Rexton is going to be based. The company has now revealed some sketches of the SUV which will be launched in India with the Mahindra brand name and it has been codenamed Y400. The vehicle will make its public debut next month at the Seoul Motor Show.
The Mahindra Y400 will be positioned above the XUV500. The styling of the SUV resembles the LIV-2 concept to quite an extent. The styling looks clean, sophisticated and modern. The vehicle also seems to have a rather butch appeal. The exterior will also get a rather good dosage of chrome along with meaty wheels.
The interiors have a neat layout and there is a premium feel. Equipment includes a large touchscreen infotainment system with WiFi, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 10.1-inch displays at the back of the front seats, individual captain seats with massage function, electric side-steps, ambient lighting, etc.
Powering the Mahindra Y400 will be a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 184 HP and 420 Nm. The engine will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed automatic transmission. There is also the possibility of the Y400 getting a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 225 HP in the future.
The Mahindra Y400 will be launched in India towards the end of this year and even though it will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, it will most probably undercut their pricing by a good Rs. 4-5 lakhs.
