Mahindra has filed trademark applications for 4 titles namely XUV900, XUV700, XUV400 and XUV100 in India.
It might be Mahindra’s attempt to cover all the bases or, on the contrary, these titles are for future products that the carmaker has planned already, which seems more probable.
Only recently did the automaker announce that it will be calling its upcoming 3-row SUV the XUV700, which will be positioned above the XUV500. So, no surprises there.
But, the Mahindra XUV900 trademark application reveals that there will be an SUV which will take its place above the XUV700 in the carmaker’s lineup.
This new model could well be the XUV Aero which was showcased at the Auto Expo back in 2016, but now, it will be based on the XUV700’s platform. If that is really the case, the coupe SUV segment could well come within the reach of many buyers.
There is a possibility that the XUV900 could be the name of the Indian brand’s future flagship SUV which will replace the Alturas G4, as well.
Up next is the XUV400 which could be the 7-seat variant of the XUV300. Reports about the development of an XUV300 with additional seats emerged 2 years ago and this model was said to be slated for global unveil in 2022. Expect the XUV400 to duke it out with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the likes.
Then comes the XUV100 moniker. Earlier this month, MD and CEO of Mahindra, Anish Shah announced that the brand will not be making mini SUVs, hatchbacks and sedans.
Finding the XUV100 title amongst other product names is a bit of a surprise, but Mahindra could have trademarked it for the proposed rebadged Ford compact SUV. Since, the joint venture with Ford has come to an end, the moniker might not be used anytime soon.
Finally, Mahindra has also trademarked a new ‘X’ logo for its SUVs, meaning the TUV and KUV monikers will be given the boot. The TUV300 is soon to be named the Bolero Neo, while the mini SUV from the brand will be discontinued.
