Mahindra XUV900 To Come With More Powerful mHawk Diesel Motor

The XUV900 will be among 9 new SUVs which Mahindra will introduce between 2021 and 2026

The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel motor of the Mahindra XUV900 could make north of 200 PS

The upcoming Mahindra XUV900 is likely to be powered by a 210 PS diesel motor fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharger.

Expected to arrive by 2024, the coupe SUV based on the XUV700 will be a modern interpretation of the XUV Aero Concept which Mahindra showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Since it will be positioned as a more premium model than the already feature-rich XUV700, it is anticipated that the car will come with more goodies.

The engine options, however are expected to be the same, meaning the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre turbodiesel will be carried as is to the coupe SUV model.

The XUV900 should have an interior derived from the XUV700

What this means is that the 210 PS diesel engine which will power the XUV900 could also be used in the XUV700 when its facelift is rolled out.

It is not known whether Mahindra will work on improving the power output of the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor, that currently makes 200 PS and 380 Nm in the XUV700, for the XUV900 and XUV700 facelift.

In addition, there are rumours which suggest Mahindra will not develop any new diesel engines from hereon as the firm has set its sight on producing electric vehicles (EVs).

It should use the diesel motors at hand till it can before switching to selling cars powered with a petrol heart and subsequently EVs.
