Yet another Mahindra XUV700 teaser and this time around it is the much talked about Smart Door Handles feature.
Mahindra XUV700 Smart Door Handles feature teased officially. The flush door handles are usually found in premium luxury cars and performance cars.
Their basic function is to boost the visual appeal of the car and provide better aerodynamics by reducing drag. In this case, I think Mahindra has primarily focused on the former. It’ll be one of the first cars to get this feature in the mass market segment.
How do the flush door handles work?
Well, the door handle just pops out when the car is unlocked via the key or by touching the request sensor on the door. When the car gets locked, it conceals back in.
Mahindra has always been creative with their flagship when it comes to door handles. The XUV500 has a unique ‘Cheetah Claw’ inspired door handle that was one of the visual treats of the SUV when it was launched in 2011.
There are multiple types of flush door handles. The one we see on the Range Rover Velar pops out from both the ends of the handle. Then there are the Tesla door handles that you need to push from one side then pull from the other end. This door handle on the XUV700 looks similar to the one seen on the Jaguar F-Type.
Apart from this feature, the Indian carmaker has also teased personalised safety alerts feature, panoramic sunroof and Auto Booster Headlamps.
Built on the new W601 platform, the Mahindra XUV700 is likely to hit the showrooms by September. It will be offered with optional AWD system.
The new flagship will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both the engines will be available with manual and automatic transmission options.
