Mahindra launched the XUV700 in October 2021. It has some outstanding safety features and equipment, including many segment firsts. It has also been priced rather aggressively with the 5-seater petrol manual being offered at a price point of just Rs. 12.49 lakhs (ex-showroom). Good quality materials along with a practical cabin has helped the XUV700 to cause some serious disruption in the segment.
Pros – Price, Safety Features, Premium Cabin
Cons – No Ventilated Seats, No Auto-Dimming IRVM
Mahindra XUV700 Exterior
In terms of dimensions, the Mahindra XUV700 is 4585 mm long, 1890 mm wide and 1785 mm tall. It has a unique grille design which is not offered on any other cars by Mahindra. The grille has a waterfall chrome treatment which looks stunning. It gets C-shaped LED headlights and LED fog lamps encompassed by a square-shaped black cladding. The design is neither too busy nor too restrained. The side of the car is a gentle reminder of the cheetah design of the XUV500. From the rear, it again looks similar to the XUV500 with sharp LED taillamps, a rear spoiler and a skid plate in the AX variant. It gets the XUV700 badging, a shark fin antenna on the roof and twin parking sensors at the rear.
Mahindra XUV700 Interior
The XUV700 boasts of a great cabin experience with Mahindra using different materials to increase the premium appeal. It features soft-touch material running from the driver to the co-driver’s end with a large infotainment screen in between. The conventional rotary controls for the AC with the piano black finish around give an upmarket feel. The doors get wooden treatment around the door locks and memory buttons on the driver’s side. It misses out on a few features which were expected at this price point. Namely an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror and front ventilated seats. The infotainment system extends to become the instrument cluster and has the digital speedometer while other functions such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mahindra connected car tech called AdrenoX get displayed on the main screen.
Mahindra XUV700 Space
With black and white upholstery, the cabin feels both airy and sporty at the same time. Considering that the XUV700 is extremely wide, the second row can accommodate three passengers comfortably. The space does become an issue if one moves to the third row, which can only seat two people comfortably. There is also some storage space below the rear AC vents.
Mahindra XUV700 Engine Performance
The 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol engine produces 200 PS at 5000 RPM and 380 Nm of torque between 1750-3000 RPM. There isn’t much of a turbo lag in the petrol trim in the lower end. Refinement levels are good for the most part except at high speeds, it’s fairly audible, which isn’t a deal-breaker.
The 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, mHawk diesel engine produces 185 PS at 3500 RPM and 420 Nm between 1600-2800 RPM in the manual variant and 450 Nm between 1750-2800 RPM in the automatic variant. The XUV700 diesel gets four driving modes namely Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom.
Mahindra XUV700 Mileage
The ARAI mileage of the XUV700 has not yet been revealed however on the petrol trim one can expect around 8-9 km/l on an average in the city which might increase out on the highway to around 12 km/l.
On the diesel trim, one can expect around 13-14 km/l in the city and 16-17 km/l out on the highway.
Mahindra XUV700 Handling
The XUV700 has an extremely light steering wheel at city speeds however at high speeds it does feel a bit disconnected. Also, body roll could have been more contained. Overall the XUV700 feels nimble and easy to drive in and around the city.
Mahindra XUV700 Comfort
The driver seat is extremely comfortable. The bolstering offers good support. It is six-way electrically adjustable along with a memory function. The driving position is also optimum. The second row gets a 60:40 split allowing one easy access to the third row. In the 7 seater version of the XUV700, the third row might be a bit tight for tall passengers. The headroom is average and the knee room could have been better. The rear armrest also gets two cup holders but it does seem to be a bit more raised than usual.
Mahindra XUV700 Safety
The XUV700 gets 7 airbags on the top of the line variant with the side curtain airbags covering the third row too. Other safety features include ISOFIX child seat mounts, driver drowsiness detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, smart pilot assist, high beam assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, auto emergency braking and front and rear disc brakes.
Mahindra XUV700 Service
Mahindra’s service network has never been an issue due to its stamping authority and recognition it has in the Indian market. One can expect reasonably good services from the automaker.

Comparing the XUV700 with the XUV500, one can clearly state that the XUV700 would hit the ground running as soon as it is available across all the dealerships in India. Thus one can expect a safe bet on Mahindra’s XUV700 in terms of resale value. The resale value also depends upon the number of kilometres driven and the condition in which the vehicle is in.

Mahindra XUV700 Upcoming Models
The XUV700 was launched in October 2021. Understanding that the SUV is recently launched in the Indian market, it happens to be seen when Mahindra plans to tweak the XUV700 with some more features and equipment which would make it even more desirable.
Mahindra XUV700 vs Tata Safari
The Tata Safari doesn’t get an AWD option. It doesn’t get a diesel engine either. Compared to the XUV700, the Safari is nearly Rs. 3.5 lakhs (on-road Mumbai) costlier. This makes the Mahindra XUV700 a strong candidate among the two. However, buyers looking for more space and comfort could opt for the Safari.
Mahindra XUV700 vs Hyundai Alcazar
The petrol and the diesel engines on the Hyundai Alcazar make less power than the ones on XUV700. However, the Alcazar does get the option of ventilated seats and a 6 seater option with the second row being equipped with captain seats.
