Mahindra XUV400 fully electric compact SUV makes its debut on World EV Day. The first electric SUV from Mahindra stable will compete directly with the Tata Nexon EV along with MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona, etc.
Test drives of the car will begin from December this year. Pricing will be announced in January 2023 and bookings will commence from the same month. Deliveries to begin by the end of January 2023. In phase 1, the XUV400 will be launched across 16 cities in India.
It is based on the XUV300 and hence the design is the same but the styling is slightly different to make it look like an EV. The front profile has no grille, it comes with redesigned bumpers and satin copper elements including the Twin Peaks logo which is finished in satin copper.
There are 5 colour options – Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black and Infinity Blue with dual tone roof option in Satin Copper finish.
The side profile looks similar but it comes with new 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The rear profile gets revised tail lamps that look bigger and redesigned bumper.
The interior is more or less the same but it also get satin copper treatment on the vents, logo and a few buttons.
It has a boot space of 378 litres while Mahindra claims 418 litres of storage space up to the roof. It has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It also gets BlueSense Plus App that offers 60-plus mobile app based connected features. The car has a provision to receive Over-the-air updates to its firm ware.
It comes with a 39.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. The electric motor produces 310 Nm of torque. The Indian UV maker claims it is the first Indian make passenger vehicle with the fastest acceleration in the non-luxury segment. Does 0-100 km/hr in 8.3 seconds and has a top speed of 150 km/hr.
Mahindra claims 456 km driving range on a single full-charge as per Indian driving cycle (MIDC). They offer three drive modes that tweak steering, throttle and regen response – Fun, Fast, Fearless. It also comes with single pedal drive mode called ‘Lively Mode’.
The battery pack is dust and waterproof, which meets IP67 standards. It takes 50 minutes to complete 80 percent charging with the 50kW DC fast charger. 7.2 kW/32A outlet takes 6 hours 30 minutes for 0-100 percent charge and the same is achieved in 13 hours while using a standard 3.3 kW/16A domestic socket.
