The battery packs of the upcoming Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV will be sourced from LG Energy Solution
Mahindra is all set to launch its first electric SUV, XUV400, coming September, and ahead of the launch, 1 of the crucial information about the SUV has been leaked. The XUV400 will come powered by battery packs from LG Energy Solution.
LG Energy Solution is a subsidiary of LG Chem which, in-turn, is a subsidiary of LG Corporation, South Korea. LG is a well-known name in Indian households as the company already sells a host home appliances and electric/electronic goods in the country.
The deal is likely to have cracked as Mahindra has already signed a deal with LG Chem in 2018 to get supplied with lithium-ion batteries based on nickel, cobalt, and manganese chemistry.
In addition to this update, the delivery timeline of the electric SUV has also been revealed. While the launch will take place in September, deliveries are likely to start from October onwards.
The XUV400 Electric will be Mahindra’s first EV venture after not tasting success with the REVAi, e2o, and eVerito. The upcoming EV will not be restricted to the current XUV300’s under-4-metre length but rather be longer at around 4.2 metres.
Mahindra is expected to introduce ADAS features on the car for the first time in the entry-level EV segment which now has only 2 cars – Tata Tigor EV and Nexon Prime EV.
Earlier, the car maker revealed that it plans to launch as many as 13 SUVs in the next 5 years. Of these, Mahindra said, 8 would be electric.
And, of the 8 electric SUVs, 4 will be completely new models and their launch will take place between 2025 and 2027, the manufacturer said.
It is to be noted that Mahindra has also signed a partnership with Volkswagen wherein it will start exploring the options of using Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform and components for its upcoming electric cars.
