Mahindra XUV Aero Electric Likely To Be Launched

Mahindra XUV Aero Concept 1

Mahindra is either going to launch a new EV designed by Pininfarina or the XUV Aero Electric in India.

Mahindra might give the XUV Aero a powerful 380 V system which it is currently working on

Mahindra is evaluating the launch prospects of the XUV Aero it showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The XUV Aero is based on the XUV 500 and what sets it apart from the XUV 500 is the swooping roof line. The SUV got the much needed attention and made every journalist ask Mahindra when will it launch the XUV Aero in India.

A stylish concept from Mahindra, the XUV Aero came with suicide doors on the side. Under the hood was a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that punched out 212 HP. However, an electric powertrain on the XUV Aero will definitely differentiate it from the normal XUV 500 and also fit in to the government’s recent push for higher adoption of electric vehicles.

The XUV Aero could be equipped with a 380 V system which Mahindra is currently working on for bigger vehicles like SUVs, MPVs and even a performance vehicle. The company currently has 2 systems – a 48 V one and a 72 V that are used in some of its vehicles.

However, the automaker has not confirmed its plans about the XUV Aero. The new EV could either be a new product that they have talked about with Pininfarina or the XUV Aero. However, if Mahindra decides to bring in the XUV Aero, the company will have to consider the cost of the high voltage powertrain technology.

The carmaker has also unveiled EV 2.0, a technology and product road map for its next generation electric vehicles. These electric vehicles will see the use of its new electric drive trains developing power figures from 41 HP to 204 HP, a range of 250-350 kms, a 0-60 km/hr time of 4-5 seconds and top speed of up to 200 km/hr.
