The Mahindra Verito has always been a workhorse best known for its diesel mill and spacious interiors. The petrol version of the car had very seldom takers in the market in a time when diesel has been the most preferred choice. Now the company too has seemed to take notice of the same. Mahindra has discontinued the petrol version of the Verito sedan in the country as the website now only shows the diesel variants on offer. The Verito started life as a Logan in 2007 under the Mahindra-Renault alliance, which was later broken and the Logan was rechristened as the Verito by Mahindra in 2010.
The Mahindra Verito petrol version was powered by a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder engine producing 75 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque. All the power was sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. The Verito petrol was known as a smooth performer and returned a fuel efficiency figure of 13.9 km/l on the sedan. The petrol version was available in two variants namely G2 and G4. Prices for the base G2 variant commenced at Rs. 5.40 lakhs, while the G4 variant was priced at Rs. 5.62 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Currently, the Verito is available with a diesel heart under the hood. The 1.5-litre k9k engine is known for its spirited performance and a strong mid-range. The 4-cylinder engine produces 65 PS of power and 160 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Mahindra is offering the Verito diesel in four variants namely the D2, D4, D6 and the Executive Edition. The Verito diesel range starts at Rs. 6.31 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Mahindra Verito’s diesel party will soon be joined by the electric version of the sedan that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in February. Powered by a 39 BHP electric motor, the Verito Electric gets an automatic transmission and a digital instrument console, while the spacious interiors have been kept intact. The Verito Electric is powered by a lithium-ion battery that provides a range of 80–85 kms in a single charge. The Verito Electric is most likely to be priced above the top end diesel version at around Rs. 9 lakhs (ex-showroom) when launched.
