Mahindra has said that they will launch three new cars in the coming three years by 2016. India’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer has made a tremendous mark on the Indian automobile market with very rugged, value for money and capable products and they will continue to do so with their newer products. There will be no new car launches in 2013, but they will launch refreshed versions of their current line-up of cars during this time, which include the sub 4-metre Verito and updated XUV500.
Mahindra will launch their new products starting 2014 with the next generation of the very high selling Scorpio SUV. Mahindra said that the new Scorpio, codenamed W105, will be much improved and very modern but will be very easily recognizable as a Scorpio and retain all its best traits like ruggedness, value for money and great performance. It is expected that the 140 HP engine and 6-speed gearbox from the XUV500 will find its way into the 2014 Scorpio which will have an improved suspension. It will be lighter with more space in the second and third rows as well as more frugal.
The next new offerings from Mahindra will be a small hatchback and a compact SUV. These cars are under development and will be based on a new monocoque, front-wheel drive platform. The hatchback, codenamed C-101, will be priced in the Rs. 3 to 5 lakh category and will compete with hatchbacks from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai with a 1.2-litre petrol and sub 1.5-litre diesel engine. The compact SUV, S-101, should be priced below the Quanto and will be under 4-metres in length with engines similar to the hatchback. These cars will give Mahindra an entry into the very competitive but high volume small car segment.
