Mahindra updates the Thar Roxx with more practical Mocha Grey interiors
Mahindra has introduced a fresh interior update for its flagship lifestyle SUV, the Thar Roxx. The company has begun offering a new Mocha Grey interior theme, replacing the earlier Ivory White setup that was standard across both 4X2 and 4X4 variants. The update comes in response to customer feedback and is now making its way to dealerships, ahead of deliveries expected to begin shortly.
A Response to Customer Feedback
Since its launch on August 15, 2024, the Thar Roxx has been positioned as a premium off-roader, combining rugged design with upscale cabin features. While its Ivory White interiors initially helped distinguish the Roxx from other lifestyle SUVs in the market, many owners found the light-coloured materials difficult to maintain, especially under off-road and dusty conditions. This concern was particularly relevant for users who frequently drove the Thar in outdoor and adventurous settings.
To address this, Mahindra had earlier introduced a Mocha Brown interior theme exclusively for 4X4 variants in October 2024. Now, the company is standardising a more practical alternative across the range by offering a Mocha Grey finish, effectively discontinuing the white option.
What’s Different in the Mocha Grey Interior?
The new Mocha Grey interior adopts a darker colour palette, which is expected to be more forgiving in real-world usage, particularly in rugged environments. The refreshed cabin retains the Thar Roxx’s premium appeal, featuring a dual-tone dashboard and door trims, along with revised upholstery. Contrast stitching in darker tones enhances the aesthetic while offering a more practical and user-friendly experience.
Although official images of the Mocha Grey interior have yet to be released, early units spotted at dealerships suggest that the new theme maintains the plush character of the Thar Roxx while improving durability and ease of upkeep.
No Changes to Powertrain or Features
Apart from the new interior colour scheme, the Thar Roxx continues unchanged mechanically. It still offers two powertrain options:
- A 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 177 PS and 380 Nm of torque
- A 2.2-litre turbo-diesel unit delivering 175 PS and 370 Nm
Both engines are available with manual and automatic transmission choices. However, the 4X4 configuration remains exclusive to the diesel variant.
In terms of features, the Thar Roxx retains its comprehensive equipment list, including:
- 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Harman Kardon premium audio system
- Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Ventilated front seats, auto climate control, and panoramic sunroof
A Practical Shift in Strategy
Mahindra’s move to introduce the Mocha Grey interior marks a considered response to user feedback, enhancing the Thar Roxx’s appeal among both off-road enthusiasts and urban buyers. While the white interiors added a touch of luxury, the new darker theme balances style with everyday practicality.
Customers can now inquire with local dealerships regarding availability of the updated Thar Roxx models featuring Mocha Grey interiors, as the company begins phasing out the Ivory White variant from its lineup.
