The alloy wheels of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5 door look very similar to the Scorpio’s units
The alloy wheels of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5 door version have been spied up close and more clearly this time and they reveal some interesting details. Firstly, they look similar to the alloy wheels of the Scorpio which has now been replaced by the Scorpio Classic.
Secondly, as per rumours, the Thar 5 door will sit on the same platform as the recently-launched Scorpio N with the same roll centre, approach/departure angles, wheelbase, ground clearance, and body shell integrity.
Sharing the platform with Scorpio N will help in plonking the mHawk and mStallion engines in their higher states of tune. The existing 3 door Thar currently runs of the lowest output from these mills.
Upping the output also helps in effortlessly hauling more passengers and luggage over hard terrains. In fact, Mahindra Thar 5 door model’s target customers would be shuttle service operators in hill stations and companies organising group adventures.
The off-roader is expected to go on sale early next year and will compete against the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door and the Force Gurkha 5 door.
The overall silhouette of the test mule looks like that of the highly-acclaimed international Jeep Wrangler. In fact, the second generation Thar has been developed actually taking inspiration from the Wrangler.
New developments state that the 5 door Thar will come with better ride quality and, it’s also set to have a lighter steering. The car will sport Mahindra’s proper 4-wheel-drive system and off-road oriented hardware.
Although potentially a longer wheelbase might rob some of the Thar’s off-road prowess, the trade off would be worth it for the vehicle will be more liveable and practical. It is said that Mahindra is expecting the 5 door Thar to find a similar response as the 3 door model.
