Mahindra Thar 5 door to get sunroof on the range topping variants
Mahindra is heavily testing the 5 door Thar and recently, MotorBeamer Om Bhavsar, spotted a prototype with a sunroof. The long wheelbase version is expected to launch by mid-2024.
Currently, the 3 door Thar is sold in two versions – hard top and soft top. The 5 door version is expected to be available only with a hard top and that too an integrated sheet metal construction with the body shell to offer better integrity and stability. This setup will further help providing a sunroof in the SUV with proper drainage layout.
The sunroof you see here in the spy video is a regular one and not a panoramic sunroof. It is neither too large nor too small. Enough to make the cabin feel airy.
Mahindra will also be offering more features like pillar mounted grab handles for all four doors, front armrest, larger touchscreen infotainment system, slightly different exterior design and colours. It will get new grille design, new LED headlights and tail lights along with new alloy wheel design. We can also expect the Indian UV maker come up with a new name for the longer Thar.
Mahindra will be offering the same engine options. It will be available with both 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine with the option of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The bigger Thar will be offered in 4×2 and 4×4 variants. It is yet to be known if the smaller 1.5-litre diesel will be offered with the RWD variants or not.
Once launched, Mahindra will have three products at the same price point with varying target audience – Thar 5 door, Scorpio N and XUV700. Which one of these would you buy? Let us know in the comments section.
