Mahindra Thar 5 Door Sunroof

Mahindra Thar 5 door to get more premium features on offer, likely to be called Armada

Mahindra has officially commenced the production of the highly anticipated Thar 5 door at its Chakan plant. Set to potentially be named the Thar Armada upon its launch, this new model is expected to attract significant attention from SUV enthusiasts in 2024.

Responding to strong interest conveyed by dealers, Mahindra has significantly increased its production plans for the Thar 5-door. Initially targeting a monthly production of around 2500 units, the company has now doubled this figure to approximately 5000 to 6000 units per month. This adjustment could result in an annual production of nearly 70,000 units, underscoring the strong demand and high expectations for the new model.

The Thar 5 door aims to address the practical limitations of its three-door predecessor. With a longer wheelbase, the new model promises increased cabin space and much-needed luggage capacity. This makes it a more viable option for families and those needing additional room for their travels.

Mahindra plans to offer the Thar 5 door with multiple powertrain options to cater to a broad audience. These include an entry-level RWD 1.5-litre diesel engine, 2.2-litre diesel engine with 4WD and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Additionally, automatic transmission options are expected for every engine variant, which should appeal particularly to urban users.

The Thar 5 door will also come equipped with a range of advanced features and safety technologies. Higher variants will include multiple airbags and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Other notable features expected in the new model include various infotainment screen options, premium upholstery, LED lighting and a choice of alloy wheel designs. Higher-end variants may also offer a panoramic sunroof.

While the introduction of the Thar 5-door is anticipated to boost Mahindra’s sales, it may also impact the sales of its other popular SUV models such as the Scorpio Classic, Scorpio N and XUV700. Despite this, the company appears confident in the Thar 5-door’s potential to attract a new segment of customers.

Although official bookings for the Thar 5-door have not yet commenced, some dealers have started accepting unofficial reservations. More details about the model, including pricing and official booking dates, are expected to emerge in the coming months.
