Mahindra Thar 5 Door ADAS Level 2 & Panoramic Sunroof Confirmed

Mahindra Thar 5-door to get more premium features on offer

The Mahindra Thar 5-door, which is likely to be called Thar Armada, is set to make its debut in India in the coming months. Latest reports confirm that the Thar Armada will be equipped with a suite of first-in-class features, including a panoramic sunroof and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Level 2.

One of the standout features of the Thar Armada will be its panoramic sunroof, making it the first ladder-frame SUV in India to offer this amenity. Spy shots have revealed that the top-end variant will boast a dual-pane sunroof, while mid-level variants are expected to come with a single-pane version. This feature is set to enhance the vehicle’s appeal by providing a spacious and airy cabin feel.

The Thar Armada’s top-end variants will also include ADAS Level 2, which is a significant leap forward in safety and driver assistance technology for the segment. This system is likely to incorporate features such as lane-keep assist, blind spot monitoring, forward collision avoidance warning and assist. These enhancements are designed to provide a safer and more convenient driving experience.

In addition to the panoramic sunroof and ADAS, the Thar Armada will feature dual 10.25-inch displays – one for the infotainment system and another for the digital instrument cluster. The SUV will also come equipped with all-LED lighting. The range will offer three different wheel designs: steel wheels for the entry-level variants, alloy wheels for the mid-level variants and diamond-cut alloy wheels reserved for the top-end trims.

The Thar Armada will be available with three powertrain options. The entry-level variant will come with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, designed to offer an aggressive entry price and a rear-wheel-drive setup. Additionally, there will be a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, both of which are expected to be available with a 4WD option. These engine choices are intended to cater to a wide range of customer preferences and driving needs.

Although Mahindra has not officially announced the launch date, unofficial bookings for the Thar Armada have begun at the dealership level. The SUV will compete directly with the recently launched Force Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Jimny. It will also serve as an alternative to popular mid-size SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
