Mahindra has filed the trademark application to use the Scorpion title, in at least 2 different forms, in India.
It is a known fact that the automaker is currently working on the next-generation version of the ageing SUV, with its launch scheduled to take place by the first half of next year.
A number of spy pictures of the upcoming model are already doing rounds online and they have made it clear that the car will come with new styling inside and out.
Speaking of new design, the car’s cabin will feature a new steering wheel, instrument cluster, and a portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system.
Coming back to the new Mahindra Scorpion trademark, we suspect it could be used for a more powerful, capable variant of the SUV.
This is not the only new trademark that the utility vehicle major has applied for. As we revealed back in October this year, it had filed the title Scorpio Sting as well.
It is not clear how Mahindra plans to use these titles. Could the Scorpio Sting be the name of a more powerful version of the SUV? or could it be that the firm has decided to go with the Scorpion title for the more able version instead?
Also, it is likely that the carmaker would keep selling the current-generation model even after its successor is put on sale. Until the firm comes up with an official announcement on the matter, all these would just be speculations.
But what can be stated is that the SUV will make use of the latest-generation Thar’s platform and powertrains, with 4-wheel-drive available as an option on certain variants.
