Mahindra looks to have chosen the name Scorpio Sting for the upcoming next-generation model of its popular SUV.
Expected to be launched by mid-2021, the new generation model will likely take a leap when it comes to offering premium features.
Also, along with the new name, the car will come with fresh looks and will also grow in size by a bit, which should help in increased passenger space inside the vehicle.
We can expect Mahindra to offer features like latest touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, among others and also drape the cabin in premium upholstery.
Two engines are expected to power the Mahindra Scorpio Sting and they are the ones seen on the 2021 Thar, but the power output might vary. In the Thar, the 2.0-litre petrol motor makes 150 BHP and up to 320 Nm and the 2.2-litre diesel puts out 130 BHP and 320 Nm.
Transmission options available on the car will include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter auto, the same as the Mahindra Thar.
When it gets launched, the Mahindra Scorpio Sting will be priced at a slight premium over the current model, since the latter will continue to be on sale alongside its successor.
The Sting’s rivals will include Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, among others in terms of price point. However, expect Mahindra to aggressively price the SUV since it might cannibalise the XUV500’s sales if the asking rate is closer.
