Internally codenamed Z101, the all-new Scorpio N was designed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and engineered at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) near Chennai. It’s a truly Indian product set to capture of the most competitive D-segment.

Manufactured at Mahindra’s state-of-the-art facility in Chakan, according to the UV maker, the Scorpio N has been developed grounds-up to meet the aspirations of the young and tech-savvy customers looking for a full-size authentic SUV.

Mahindra claims best-in-class command seating for the Scorpio N

Sharing almost nothing with the existing Scorpio, the new Scorpio N is built on a new generation platform getting the best engines of the company. At the front, the SUV features a long and high bonnet sitting on chunky muscular panels.

The front hexagonal grille is new and features Scorpio’s signature vertical slats finished in chrome on angled horizontal slats. At the bottom, there’s a trapezoidal honeycomb grille that has the bumper element and the brushed silver skid plate.

While the top grille holds Mahindra’s new logo, the bottom unit has the number plate. The SUV gets LED headlamps, DRLs, and fog lamps. Each headlamp features 2 LED housings for a sporty look.

The SUV features chrome inserts on the side window line while the roof rails are finished in white. The ORVMs are both electrically adjustable as well as foldable.

A matte black side cladding runs throughout the body holding the brushed silver skid plates. The fan-blade-like looking alloy wheels are diamond cut units and they sport a dual-tone finish.

The seats get good side bolsters

The Scorpio N rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels for the manual while the automatic gets small 17-inch units. The SUV has well sorted high-speed handling, cornering, and road manners claims Mahindra.

At the rear, the reversing lights and the reflectors are embedded on the bumper rather than on the D-pillar. The regular tail lamp elements are vertically stacked like the existing Scorpio.

The tail gate is a proper door and houses the number plate recess surrounded by bold creases. The car features a rear spoiler and shark-fin antenna at the top.

There are 7 colours on offer – Deep Forest, Napoli Black, Everest White, Red Rage, Dazzling Silver, Royal Gold, and Grand Canyon.

As far as dimensions are concerned, the Scorpio N measures 1870 mm in height, 4662 mm in length, and 1917 mm in width. The wheelbase measures 2750 mm. All these values are marginally higher than that of the prime rival Tata Safari.

On the inside, the Scorpio N gets a new dual-tone brown and walnut coloured upholstery with thick cushioning and side bolsters for the 4 captain seats. The driver seat gets 6-way power adjust feature that also includes lumbar adjust.

The interior is finished in a premium beige and black combo. The SUV is offered in both 6 and 7 seater options.

The bottom gets matte black cladding and brushed silver skid plates throughout

Though the seats lack modern bits like coloured stitching and quilted patterns, the presence of adjustable headrests on all the rows is a big thumbs up. The front seats have magazine holders at the back which, again, is a nice touch.

The captain seats get dedicated arm rests. The driver seat arm rest also doubles up as the housing for the rear AC vents which have been placed higher for better air throw. There’s a mobile charging port near the rear AC vents.

The steering has been updated and looks similar to that of the XUV700’s unit. The interior overall feels large and roomy sporting chrome and brushed silver finish at many places for a premium appeal. Mahindra claims that the Scorpio N has best-in-class command seating.

The SUV features a 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with inbuilt navigation. The infotainment system and instrument cluster get AdrenoX connected car AI technology from Bosch India to deliver seamless connectivity and enhanced user experience. There are more than 70 features on offer.

The add-ons include Amazon Alexa built-in, what3words (w3w) – Alexa enabled, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto TM, Sony 3D Immersive Audio with 12 speakers and dual-channel sub-woofer, dual front and rear camera, and wireless charger.

As far as features are concerned, the Scorpio N gets both front and rear parking assistance with dedicated front and rear parking camera and sensors. Another great update is the addition of voice commands. The SUV gets sunroof which can be opened or closed using voice commands.

The SUV 4-wheel drive system gets activated on demand

The car features dual-zone automatic climate control, again, for the first time. The system helps regulate temperature between the front and rear portion of the cabin using the front and rear AC vents.

The car, for the first time, gets tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) which will honk the car when the required pressure is reached. The system is so advanced that it even detects the position of the tires. If the tires are interchanged, the values gets automatically updated appropriately.

The Scorpio N can automatically close the sunroof and widows for the passengers in case the rain-sensing wipers run for more than 10 seconds. The SUV’s cruise control can be activated from as low as 20 km/hr which means the car can be used in a convoy too.

For the first time in its lifespan, the upcoming Scorpio N gets what 1 calls a driver drowsiness detection system which alerts when there’s no input from the driver for a prolonged period of time.

In case of a crash with airbags deflated, the Scorpio N can automatically call 108 for the passengers. Mahindra With You Hamesha team will also call for further support. The SUV gets dedicated SOS and RSA buttons for calling 108 and the Road Side Assistance respectively.

Power comes from 2 engines – mStallion 2-litre petrol engine that puts out 200 HP and 380 Nm, and mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine that exerts 172.5 HP and 400 Nm.

The rear features a proper tail gate

Offered in both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, the SUV features a part-time 4×4 system too in which the power is sent to all 4 wheels only when the condition needed it.

Based on the level of traction on the surface, the Scorpio’s onboard computer automatically activates or deactivates the 4×4 system.

But, drivers do have some control over it. The SUV will sport 2 transfer cases – 4H and 4L and drivers can manually toggle between the 2 via dedicated buttons. There’s also a dedicated differential lock.

To further make off-roading safe, the Scorpio gets a big suite of safety features. They include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), traction control, hill hold & descent control, ABS with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), 6 airbags, vehicled dynamic control, roll over mitigation, brake disc wiping, electronic brake prefill, ISOFIX, and i-SIZE compatibility.
