Mahindra Scorpio N shares its engines with that of the Thar and XUV700 albeit in different state of tunes
The exact specifications of the engines and powertrains of the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N have been leaked online ahead of the SUV’s launch on 27th June. While we did reveal the specs earlier, the figures leaked now are deemed to the correct ones.
Earlier, we told you that the Scorpio N will sit equally between Thar and XUV700 when it comes to paper figures. But, now, it has been learnt that the Scorpio’s specs are nearly equivalent to that of the XUV700 which makes it a tempting package.
Coming to the numbers, all the petrol variants of the Scorpio N will get 197 HP from the mStallion that’s same as that of the XUV700 and almost 50 HP more than the Thar. An excellent move indeed!
As far as diesels are concerned, the Scorpio N’s base variants will get 130 HP, nearly same as the Thar, and 23 HP down from the XUV’s base variants. The top diesel variants will get 173 HP, 45 HP up from the Thar’s top models and just 9 HP down from the XUV’s top variants.
Mahindra Scorpio N Specs:
Aspect | Diesel Lower Variants | Diesel Higher Variants | Petrol |
---|---|---|---|
Engine | 2.2-litre mHawk | 2.2-litre mHawk | 2-litre mStallion |
Power | 130 HP | 173 HP | 197 HP |
Torque | 300 Nm | 370 Nm / 400 Nm | 370 Nm / 380 Nm |
Transmission | 6-speed MT | 6-speed MT / AT | 6-speed MT / AT |
Drivetrain | RWD | RWD / 4WD | RWD / 4WD |
For reference, the Scorpio Classic (as it’s currently called) get’s the diesel engine alone in 2 states of tune – 118 HP for the base variants and 138 HP for the top models, which are no way near the upcoming Scorpio’s figures.
Mahindra has also trademarked the ‘4Xplor’ name. Sources said it will be the name for the upcoming SUV’s 4×4 variants.
The company will be offering the system even on mid-level trims and those with petrol engines, which should account for a big number of variants. Our wild guess is that, at least, a quarter of the 28 variants will be 4×4 capable.
The SUV will feature a part-time 4×4 system in which the power is sent to all 4 wheels only when the condition needed it. Based on the level of traction on the surface, the Scorpio’s onboard computer automatically activates or deactivates the 4×4 system.
But, drivers do have some control over it. The SUV will sport 2 transfer cases – 4H and 4L and drivers can manually toggle between the 2 via dedicated buttons. There’s also a dedicated differential lock.
In addition, the car has modes beside the gear lever – Rough Road, Snow, Mud, and Water, which can be toggled via a rotary knob. On regular roads, the SUV automatically switches to rear wheel drive.
