Mahindra Scorpio first batch delivered to the Indian Army
Mahindra received an order of 3320 units of Scorpio for the Indian armed forces. The Indian UV maker has commenced deliveries of the first batch and here we have spotted the vehicle for the first time.
The SUV has an imposing stance, it looks no different than the regular Scorpio. Do note that this isn’t the latest ‘Classic’ version of the Scorpio. It is the model that was sold before the Classic arrived. It comes with the older grille, tail lamp design and the old Mahindra logo.
The army-spec version looks a tad taller with slightly more ground clearance and of course the matte green military colour is exclusive for the Indian Army.
While the carmaker has not revealed any specs of the SUV officially, we believe it is powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that came with the pre-Classic version. It produces 140 BHP and 320 Nm of torque. This is relatively more than the Classic’s engine producing 130 BHP and 300 Nm torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. As is the case with all army vehicles, it is equipped with 4×4 as standard.
It must have been tweaked further to increase its minimum payload capacity to 800 kg. We haven’t seen the interior yet but we believe it might not be available with all the features that the range topping Scorpio offers.
Previously the Indian armed forces ordered 3192 units of Tata Safari Storme GS800. Both of them together on duty might look super cool, the long time rivals of the Indian auto industry.
