Mahindra Scorpio Classic spotted yet again, this time, revealing more details, the SUV no longer gets premium chrome bits
Mahindra Scorpio Classic, which is set to replace the existing Scorpio, has been spotted yet again, this time, revealing more details about how it’s gonna look on the inside and outside. From the first look, a lot of cost cutting seems evident.
As of now, the Scorpio is available in 5 trims – S3+, S5, S7, S9, and S11 with prices starting from Rs. 13.54 lakhs for the base S3+ variants and going up to Rs. 18.62 lakhs for the top-end S11 variant, all prices, ex-showroom.
But, the upcoming Scorpio Classic, as per its leaked type-approval certificate, will be available only in 2 trims – S and S11 which comprise of 5 variants – S MT 7S, S MT 9S, S11 MT 7S, S11 MT 9S, and S11 MT 7S CC. The S trim is the replacement for the S3+.
Fortunately, both the trims will get the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine in the same state of tune as per the type-approval certificate and the unit churns out the same horsepower as the Thar exerting 130 HP.
But there’s neither AWD or automatic option. Power is down by 7 HP from the outgoing Scorpio’s top-end variants that get a higher state of tune from the mHawk engine. Also, it’s still not known whether the car will get a 5 or 6 speed gearbox.
As far as design goes, the Scorpio Classic is based on the first generation model’s third facelift that went on sale in 2014. Looking at the spy shots, the noticeable change at the front is the removal of the signature mesh grille with vertical slats.
In its place, Mahindra has plonked in the upcoming Scorpio N’s overlapping checked grille that has thin chrome vertical slats on angled horizonal strips. The front bumper has been nearly untouched. A larger part of the front skid plate gets Silver finish.
However, the biggest update is the new design for the alloy wheels. They get a dual-tone Gloss Black and Silver finish. At the rear, the tailgate strip gets a Gloss Black finish as against the chrome lining on the outgoing model.
On the inside, the steering gets a Gloss Black liner as against the Silver liner of the outgoing model. The quality of the steering wheel, at least in the test mule, is a big thumbs down. It looks very rough like a truck steering.
But, the centre console gets a dial-less full touch screen unit with Gloss Black liner which is a big thumbs up. The screen could measure 9 inches and looks very intuitive. Rest all aspects of the interiors look same as the outgoing model.
The upcoming SUV is expected to be stripped off some high-end features like the intelligent 1-touch lane change, connected features in infotainment system, etc. But nothing has been confirmed yet.
The Scorpio Classic is expected to retain the prices of the outgoing model and might be launched very soon.
