The Scorpio now gets a 6-speed automatic transmission and is available on the top-end S10 variant complete with All-Wheel Drive as optional.
With the Hyundai Creta automatic out to play, Mahindra has officially launched the new generation Scorpio automatic in the country with prices starting at Rs. 13.13 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) in a bid to compete against the newest compact SUV. Dealers though had started accepting bookings for the Scorpio Automatic earlier this month and stated that the model is a ‘made to order’ unit and is not readily available off the shelf. That said, the Scorpio automatic is the only model to come with All-Wheel Drive as optional in the segment and undercuts its rivals by a decent margin.
In terms of specifications, the 2015 Mahindra Scorpio AT draws power from the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine producing 120 BHP at 4000 RPM and 280 Nm of torque between 1800-2800 RPM. The motor is now paired to a 6-speed self-shifting hydraulic transmission unit and is available in Two-Wheel Drive and Four-Wheel Drive options on the S10 variant. Being the range-topping trim, the Scorpio AT comes loaded with all the bells and whistles including the 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, height adjustable driver’s seat and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Based on the upgraded chassis, the Mahindra Scorpio S10 AT also comes loaded with dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, panic brake indication; while the new cushion suspension and anti-roll technologies aid towards improved ride and handling. The first generation Scorpio AT was launched in 2008 and sold in decent numbers. The second generation Scorpio is already doing well and the automatic should improve the sales by a small margin. With no direct competitor save for the Creta, Mahindra certainly has a competitive edge over rivals.
