Mahindra ROXOR has been unveiled in the US, will be offered in over 900 colour options.
It was already in the news that development of a Thar based off-road vehicle was at full swing at the Mahindra North America Technical Centre in Michigan. Rumours had it that the recreational vehicle will be named as Thor but the UV maker has chosen to name it the Mahindra ROXOR. The made-in-USA ROXOR has now been unveiled and will be sold through their new powersports dealer network.
With the ROXOR, Mahindra has put its heritage of building tough off-road vehicles since the past 70 years to good use. Built with an emphasis on robustness, the 2-seater uses steel body on a boxed steel frame similar to the Thar without doors, roof and windscreen. What the ROXOR does get is a redesigned grille, optional winch and optional 16-inch alloys wrapped in 235 section tyres. Suspension setup comprises of leaf springs at the front as well as the rear.
On the inside, the Mahindra ROXOR is as basic as it gets with a hydraulic steering wheel and steel dashboard. Besides a single-gauge instrument cluster, cup holders are probably the only luxury you can think of. Powering the ROXOR is a 2.5-litre M2DICR turbocharged diesel engine which comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a four-wheel-drive drivetrain. With a top speed limited to 72 km/hr (note that the ROXOR is not street legal), the 4-cylinder motor develops 62 HP of power and 195 Nm of torque.
When launched in the US, the Mahindra ROXOR will compete with other side-by-side vehicles such as Kawasaki Mule Pro and Polaris RZR ATV. Mahindra Automotive North America (MANA) looks forward to invest another Rs. 3900 crores over the current investment of Rs. 1497 crores in Michigan by 2020.
