Mahindra Rexton has been spotted testing in India, likely to be launched in the second half of 2018.
The Mahindra Rexton aka XUV700 has been spied testing in Nashik, Maharashtra with a new grille. The SUV is expected to be launched in India in the second half of 2018 (by the festive season). Mahindra is yet to reveal the official name of the SUV.
The Mahindra Rexton was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year and featured a toothed grille (6 vertical slats) like the pre-facelift Scorpio and the current XUV500. The recent spy shots of the SUV, however, reveal a distinctive grille. The homegrown automaker is likely to retain the toothed grille on the vehicle, which will feature a two-tone gloss black or chrome upper grille with a chrome applique above it. The upper grille will consist of thick vertical chrome slats, thin gloss black vertical slats and a gloss black frame.
Sitting on a new Quad Frame chassis, the Mahindra Rexton will come powered by a 2.2-litre e-XDi220 engine under the hood. The oil-burner puts out 178 HP of power and 420 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Mercedes-Benz and a selectable four-wheel-drive system. The vehicle is likely to be available in a 6-speed manual transmission variant as well.
The Mahindra Rexton will get features such as HID projector headlights with LED DRLs, LED tail lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats, powered tailgate, modern instrument console, electric parking brake and 9 airbags. Mahindra will start importing the Rexton to India in the form of CKD kits between July to September 2018 and will assemble the car at its Chakan plant.
