Mahindra will be launching the Quanto compact SUV in the Indian market on the 20th of September, 2012. The Indian utility vehicle major has a lot of hopes riding on the Quanto and has thus spend an insane amount of time in testing it. Unlike the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and the Premier Rio (which are all compact SUVs), the Mahindra Quanto offers 7-seats, which is 2-up on the competition. These uncamouflaged pictures of the Quanto were snapped by Team-BHP member VC.Vinay, when the TVC was being shot at T3 Terminal of the Delhi airport.
The 2-jump seats in the last row will most likely be optional. The front styling and interiors of the Mahindra Quanto are carbon copy of the Xylo MPV. Mahindra will offer a huge list of features (including DDAS) on the vehicle, thereby playing the value for money card. Prices are expected to start around Rs. 5 lakhs for the base variant, while the top end variant will be priced just a shade under Rs. 7 lakhs. However it remains to be seen how the dynamics of the Quanto play out as the car uses a body on ladder frame.
Mahindra has developed a downsized version of the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. This 1493cc, 3-cylinder engine has been named mCR100 and produces 100 BHP of power and 240 Nm of torque. It returns an ARAI certified mileage of 17.3 km/l. This engine will give the Quanto stellar performance and will also debut in other Mahindra vehicles in the future. Although the launch is less than 2 weeks away, Mahindra continues to test the Quanto. The last two pictures were snapped yesterday on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, while returning from the MotorBeam meet.
