Mahindra has launched its third sub-4m SUV, the NuvoSport in India. It is positioning the new car as an adventure SUV made for the youth.
Mahindra can be better referred to as the UV and SUV maker. The company has been developing these cars since forever and excels at it. It has tried its hands in other segments but didn’t do too well there. Now to further strengthen its stance in the segment, it has launched the NuvoSport which is essentially the facelifted model of the Quanto, that gets an updated chassis as it no longer is underpinned by the Xylo’s frame, instead it uses the Scorpio’s modular platform.
The third sub-4m SUV from Mahindra, the NuvoSport is positioned between the TUV300 and Scorpio in terms of pricing. Speaking of pricing, it starts at Rs. 7.35 lakhs and goes all the way up to Rs. 9.76 lakhs (ex-showroom, Thane). For the additional money over the TUV, it gets a more powerful engine to lug around the added weight.
In terms of design, the NuvoSport’s design is quite a departure from the Quanto’s boring styling. The front end looks butch with uniquely positioned DRLs and hood scoop giving a solid character. The new alloys and body cladding elevate the looks of the side profile too which earlier looked way too bland. At the rear, changes are minimal but they make the car look more modern.
The interior of the NuvoSport is similar to the Quanto. There is a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Mahindra claims the vehicle has the best in class width and height. The vehicle has 5+2 seating with a reclining second row which is again a first in SUVs in India, as per the company. The vehicle gets a 3-years/1-lakh kms warranty.
Some features on the Mahindra NuvoSport include micro-hybrid technology, driver information system, Intellipark reverse assist, ABS with EBD, speed sensing auto door lock, dual airbags and digital engine immobiliser.
The Mahindra NuvoSport is powered by the same engine which was seen in the Quanto. The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 100 BHP of power and 240 Nm of torque. The new addition is the toggle switch for driving modes. The Eco mode restricts the power to 72 BHP and torque to 180 Nm increasing the fuel efficiency to claimed 17.45 km/l. The Mahindra NuvoSport is available in 6 colours.
